The 2011 Rodney Strong Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is our kind of wine. It's so true to type, very Burgundian. That means it's not trying to be a cabernet. Instead it acts just like a pinot noir. First off you can see through it, a beautiful red burgundy color, and the aromas are obvious and full, yielding cherry, strawberry, spice and stem. That classic pinot noir velvet just has to be experienced; good pinot noir can be clear red and chock full of aroma and flavor. The mouth entry is bright clean and cherried. Firm acids and great length complete this medium full wine. Serve with tasty red sauces, soft cuts of lamb or beef -- and of course salmon! Costs about $20.
