Amateur outplays pros for first-day Eagleglen lead

David Hamilton fired a 65 at Eagleglen Golf Course to take the first-day lead in the Eagleglen Open and make a bid to become just the second amateur to win the golf tournament.

In second place, trailing by two strokes. is Billy Bomar, whose 67 leads a field of 12 professionals. Rob Nelson, another pro, is third at 68.

Brad Pitzer leads the seniors division with a 69 and is fourth overall.

Terri McAngus, who has dominated every major women’s event this summer, shot a 76 to claim a 14-stroke lead over Jane Shaw in the women’s competition.
