UAA volleyball team sweeps Kingsville

— The UAA volleyball team benefitted from serving errors and hitting errors by Texas A&M Kingsville to coast to victory Friday night in the SpringHill Suites Invitational.

The match was the fifth and final of the day at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex, and the Seawolves made quick work of it, taking a 25-18, 25-22, 25-14 win.

It was UAA's second win in two days of the six-team tournament. The Seawolves play twice Saturday, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. match against Notre Dame de Namur and a 7:30 p.m. match against Augustana.

Jodi Huddleston had four block assists to help UAA put up a solid block. Maureen Sabado added three block assists, and Julia Mackey and Erin Braun each had two.

Mackey's eight kills led the Seawolves, who had 35 kills and 16 errors on 98 attack attempts for a .194 hitting percentage; Mackey had no errors for a .381 hitting percentage.

Kingsville made 21 errors while posting a .056 hitting percentage and gave away 10 points at the service line.

Quinn Barker's 15 digs led a 46-dig effort for UAA, and Siobhan Johansen and Morgan Hooe combined for 26 assists.

Kingsville, which plays in the Lone Star Conference, was led by Kelsey Washington's seven kills and 10 digs.



Augustana 3, Claflin 0

All-American Holly Hafemeyer hammered a match-high 17 kills to spark Augustana's high-percentage attack and lift the Vikings of South Dakota to a sweep of Claflin (S.C.) in a Friday morning match.

Augustana prevailed 25-12, 25-14, 25-17.

Taylor Hrdlichka added 10 kills for Augustana in the season opener for both teams. Marissa Johnson quarterbacked the offense with 38 assists and Kayla Wallerich triggered the defense with 13 digs. The Vikings racked an attack percentage of .309.

Kiara Johnson led Claflin with seven kills and Courtney Person delivered a match-high 14 digs.



Augustana 3, Kingsville 0

Courtney Ysker's match-high 15 kills paced Augustana to an afternoon sweep of Texas A&M Kingsville, 25-17, 25-13, 25-22.

Hrdlichka added 11 kills, and Hafemeyer and Brittany Cech each added nine. Johnson collected 43 assists.

Stephanie Johns paced Kingsville with eight kills.



AIC 3, N. Dame de Namur 0

Caitlin Connelly, Bailey Swan and Melanie Garcia combined for 42 digs Friday to spur American International College of Massachusetts to a sweep of Notre Dame de Namur of California.

The Yellowjackets won 25-16, 25-21, 25-15.

Connelly generated 20 digs, and Swan and Garcia furnished 11 each. Britt Bryant led AIC with 10 kills.

Dominique Tarrant led the Argos with 10 kills. Notre Dame de Namur also received 13 digs from Kawai Robins-Hardy, 12 each from Brooke DeMiguel and 10 from Michelle Hines.



N. Dame de Namur 3, Claflin 1

Jacqueline Harper dished out 55 assists and Dominique Tarrant lead a quartet of Notre Dame de Namur players whose kill totals reached double figures in a 22-25, 25-18, 25-16, 29-27 win over Claflin. The loss was Claflin's second of the day.

Tarrant pounded 22 kills to go with 12 digs. Brooke DeMiguel added 13 kills, and Paulina Aukiona and Kawai Robins-Hardy each had 11. Michelle Hines came up with a match-high 21 digs.

Bria Bronson's 11 kills led Claflin, which lost despite a 10-3 block advantage.
