Amateurs take it to golf pros in Bomar Cup

September 7, 2013

The amateurs ruled over the professionals Saturday at the annual Bomar Cup at Eagleglen Golf Course.

The amateurs won the morning’s four-ball matches 4-1 and repeated that advantage in the afternoon foursomes to earn an 8-2 lead. Competition continues Sunday with singles matches.

Amateur Paul Blanche contributed to two wins.

Named after Anchorage golf pro Billy Bomar, the tournament adopted a new format this year to give Alaska’s best amateurs a chance to compete against Alaska’s best professionals.  The tournament began in 2008 as a competition between Anchorage golf pros and Alaska pros who lived outside Anchorage.
