Afoa will stay home and join the UAA women's basketball team

Former Dimond basketball standout Sierra Afoa will continue her playing career with the UAA women this season.

The 5-foot-9 forward spent four years on varsity with Dimond and helped claim four straight Cook Inlet Conference titles for the Lynx. She was named conference MVP as a senior last season.

Afoa also made the final four of the Class 4A state tournament each year with Dimond and made the All-State tournament team the past three years. The multi-sport star also lent her talents to the Dimond volleyball team and softball team, contributing to state volleyball title runs in 2010 and 2012 and a CIC softball title in 2011.

“From the beginning of the recruiting process, it was clear that UAA was her dream school,” said UAA coach Ryan McCarthy in a press release. “That kind of passion really sets a positive tone and will help her as she adjusts to the college level.”
