Our man J.J. Johnson, the winger from Anchorage who labored long and hard just to make it in the ECHL before spending the last three seasons in the AHL, has signed a PTO (professional tryout agreement ) with the NHL's New York Islanders, the club reported today.

The 32-year-old winger thus will be in training camp with the Isles. Johnson has played 103 AHL games and 190 ECHL games. He's a former Alaska Ace and former UAA Seawolf.

Johnson in the offseason signed a one-year deal with AHL Bridgeport, the Isles' affiliate, after spending the previous three seasons with AHL Manchester (L.A. Kings affiliate).
