Eagle River, South claim flag football wins

Eagle River 18, Service 14

Lauren Frost’s two touchdowns and two interceptions powered Eagle River to an 18-14 upset of Service in a Cook Inlet Conference flag football game Thursday in Eagle River.

Frost scored the game-winner on a five-yard run with about four minutes left in the game to lift the Wolves (1-4) to their first win of the season. The loss was the first of the season for Service (3-1).

Frost scored earlier on a 65-yard pass to Brooklyn Barnes. Jazmin Mercado had Eagle River’s other touchdown, scoring on a five-yard run.

Eagle River led 6-0 at the half on Zoe Bailey's touchdown reception. Bailey caught eight passes and led the Wolves on defense with 10 pulls and an interception.

 

South 13, Chugiak 7

Brenna Johnson’s interception with four minutes left ended a Chugiak drive and sealed Eagle River’s 13-7 CIC flag football victory Thursday in Eagle River.

Chugiak was at the South 10-yard line when Johnson picked off a pass at the 2-yard line.

Chugiak led 7-0 before South tied it with Julia Carmack’s 20-yard pass to Claire Lovering. The Wolverines took the lead in the second quarter with a touchdown by Sabrina Ungaro, who caught a five-yard pass from Carmack and added 20 yards on the ground for the score.
