Meanwhile, across the pond...

Just a quick fly-by to update a few Alaska-connected cats playing in the Great Britain-based Elite Ice Hockey League.

Our man Curtis Leinweber, the former defenseman-winger-center at UAA, is off to a serious start for the Edinburgh Capitals -- he racked two goals and a helper today in a 5-3 win over the Hull Stingrays to give him 5-2--7 totals in five games. Former UAA winger Jade Portwood furnished an assist for the Caps to mark his first point in five games.

Bill Bagron of Eagle River delivered a goal and a helper for the Dundee Stars in a 7-0 win over the Cardiff Devils. That gives him 3-5--8 totals in six matches.

And former Alaska Aces (ever so briefly) goaltender Kevin Regan turned aside 46 shots for the Fife Flyers in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Coventry Blaze. Regan's record isn't pretty -- 1-2-2 -- but his .931 save percentage and 2.74 goals-against average are nice.
