The opinion in the “Our View” on guns and sense (Sept. 20) could only work in a perfect world. There is no way that there will ever be any rational debate about guns with people like Feinstein, Shumer and Pelosi. There is no common ground because the solution is to go after the people who commit crimes, not law-abiding citizens.
The latest mass shooting was conducted by someone who should have been institutionalized, not running around a military base with a security clearance. The op-ed on the opposing page explains why nothing can be done currently to deal with people like this. The Democrats blocked the legislation sponsored by Sen. Mark Begich. They will never vote for anything that makes sense; that is why they are politicians.
The only thing I can come to common ground on with this article is that I agree that gun control advocates will not be happy until they have confiscated every gun without regard to the law-abiding citizens or the Second Amendment.
