Letter: Alaskans have it easy on taxes

Anchorage Daily NewsSeptember 23, 2013

I have to agree with Diane Pleninger’s letter in today’s (Sept. 23) ADN.

Whenever I hear people whine about how high taxes are in Anchorage, I think, “We have no sales tax, no state income tax, and actually receive a check FROM our state government every year! Who else in the U.S.A. is so fortunate?” Such people ought to move to California for a while where, 30 years ago, I was paying nearly a 10 percent sales tax as well as annual state income tax.

Sometimes the privileged don’t know how well-off they are. Too bad.
