Tennis: East stops Eagle River

In a fiercely contested boys singles match, Eagle River’s Ryan Casey outdueled East’s Eli Neslund to highlight Friday’s Cook Inlet Conference meet between the teams.

Neslund won the first set but Casey took the tiebreaker that decided the second set and went on to claim a 3-6, 7-6 (3), 10-7 win.

East won the meet 6-3.

Boys singles 1 — Ryan Casey (ER) d. Eli Neslund (E) 3-6, 7-6 (3), 10-7. Boys singles 2 — Robbie Brewer (E) d. Dagan Mullins (ER) 6-1, 6-0. Girls singles 1 — Mary Stone (ER) d. Abby McDiffett (E) 6-1, 5-7, 10-8. Girls singles 2 — Claire Bottini (ER) d. Kate Alversado (E) 6-4, 6-4. Boys doubles 1 — Will Kim/Elmer Bungay (E) d. Jace Jerome/Dan McLain (ER) 6-2, 6-2. Boys doubles 2 — Kongchen Yang/Ari Hinrichs (E) won by default. Girls doubles 1 — Olivia Grant/Ellen Rumley (E) d. Dana Bernhardt/Hannah Spainhour (ER) 6-1, 6-1. Girls doubles 2 — Erica Williams/Laura Horton (E) d. Tess Hopkin/Heather Lyon (ER) 6-3, 6-0. Mixed doubles — Jesse Wight-Crask/Morgan Rice (E) won by default.
