Dimond, South, Service undefeated in West Spiketacular

Dimond, South and Service all emerged undefeated on the first day of pool play in the West Spiketacular volleyball tournament at West High.

Dimond is 8-0 and South and Service are both 6-0 heading into second-day action in the Spiketacular, which features 21 teams from across Alaska.

Tournament host West is the only other team with more than six pool-play wins -- the Eagles are 7-1.

Competition resumes with more pool play in the morning at both West and Romig Middle School. At noon, teams are separated into three brackets, with the top seven teams go into the gold bracket, the middle seven go into the silver bracket and the bottom seven go into the bronze bracket.

Championship matches for each bracket are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at West.

Pool A -- Dimond 8-0, Kodiak 6-2, Anchorage Christian 5-3, West Valley 4-4, Wasilla 3-5, East 2-6, Eagle River 0-8. Pool B -- Service 6-0, South 6-0, Palmer 6-2, Lathrop 3-5, Barrow 2-6, Juneau 2-6, Nikiski 1-7. Pool C -- West 7-1, Chugiak 6-2, Skyview 4-4, Colony 3-3, Grace Christian 3-3, Bartlett 3-5, Nome 0-8.
