A LifeMed helicopter airlifted a Montana woman who fell and hurt her leg Tuesday on Flattop Mountain, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers located Julie Corwin, 53, about a mile from the trail head after someone called for help at 5:16 p.m. She was alert and conscious, they said. Troopers called Life Med to take Corwin to Providence Alaska Medical Center.

The 1.7-mile trail up the 1,300-foot peak in Chugach State Park attracts many visitors. One or two people get hurt on Flattop every month in summer, according to Matt Wedeking, Chugach State Park chief ranger.

Troopers this year conducted 10 search-and-rescues on Flattop, spokeswoman Megan Peters said.
