Letter: Serious problems in Congress

AnchorageOctober 6, 2013

Claiming the other party won’t negotiate after you’ve used 18 filibusters in one year to block budget negotiations is disingenuous. Failing, over a three year period, to offer a legislative alternative to a law that you don’t agree with, the Affordable Care Act, is irresponsible. Failing 41 times to achieve your goal of a legislative repeal of the Affordable Care Act is incompetence. Using a shutdown of the federal government to achieve what you’ve been unable to obtain through the legislative process undermines the American democracy. Using the threat a financial default on congressionally approved appropriations in order to obtain what you haven’t otherwise been able to achieve is un-American.
