Letter: Government shutdown has let us see two important lessons

Americans have learned two very important things from the shutdown.

First, we have been trained to understand that the public cannot use the public lands without supervision by uniformed national park police armed with automatic weapons.

Second, Americans learned that still another advantage of being a federal employee includes unscheduled but fully paid indeterminate vacations which the private sector cannot provide.
