Wild G Backstrom has knee strain

The Sports NetworkOctober 8, 2013

St. Paul, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom has been diagnosed with a right knee strain and is listed as day-to- day.

Backstrom left Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators with an apparent right leg injury. He was forced from the game with 8:46 remaining in the first period, when his leg was wrapped around the post in a goalmouth collision between teammate and defenseman Keith Ballard and Nashville's Eric Nystrom.

Josh Harding took over in net for the Wild, and allowed Nystrom's penalty-shot goal to put the visitors down 3-1.

Backstrom departed having allowed two goals on only five shots.

In other roster news Wednesday, the Wild recalled forward Stephen Veilleux from the AHL's Iowa Stars, while assigning forwards Carson McMillan and Jason Zucker to Iowa.
