Letter: No budget, no pay

October 11, 2013

Well, Sen. Begich seems to have beat me to it in his letter of Oct. 9. The “partial federal shutdown” is still a 100 percent shutdown to those federal workers who are furloughed and wondering how to pay their bills. How many of us could handle an abrupt loss of  half to all of our income regardless of whether we would be “repaid” at some future time?

I am glad Sen. Begich is sponsoring a bill called “no budget, no pay.” No matter which party it is, as far as I am concerned, it is all crocodile tears from the senators and representatives about the government shutdown as they play with other people’s lives and futures. They will lack credibility until they themselves are not being paid until the government reopens.
