Eagle River's Smith, South's Mills tops in gymnastics

Mackenzie Smith of Eagle River and Jojo Mills of South each won two events Saturday in a four-team gymnastics meet at Chugiak.

Smith won the floor exercise with a score of 9.45, the highest of the meet. She topped the uneven parallel bars with an 8.55 and placed second in both the vault and balance beam.

Mills won the vault (8.4) and beam (9.2) and was second in floor exercise. South’s Milena Denny was the runner-up on bars.

The meet was one of two “Think Pink” meets Saturday in the Cook Inlet Conference. Both served as fundraisers for charities benefitting breast cancer patients.
