Letter: Unions sway Assembly members

October 14, 2013

How much influence can organized labor unions, financed by taxpayers’ dollars through wages and benefits, exert on Assembly members to get them to vote against AO 37? Evidently enough, in spite of the campaign pledges by all of them to be guided by the principle of frugal fiscal management of the municipality’s resources. It is obvious that the perceived influence of labor unions’ help in getting elected and reelected overrides that principle. Anchorage can go bankrupt using the same methods other cities, states and nations have.
