Eagle River won a marathon match against Bartlett on Friday night, warding off match point several times in a tense fourth set before claiming a five-set Cook Inlet Conference volleyball victory.
Kara Viotto slammed 14 kills and posted six blocks, three of them solo efforts, to lead the Wolves to the 28-26, 15-25, 13-25, 29-27, 15-12 victory at Eagle River.
"They just decided they wanted it," coach Katie Hulse said of the pivotal fourth set. "They were at home, and they wanted to win. Everything started clicking."
Paige Harder handed out 40 assists and Drew Sheperd and Jayme Whipple worked hard on defense to deny Bartlett hitters with dozens of digs.
Service 3, Chugiak 0
Emily Rosenfield's third solo block of the match put an exclamation mark on Service's sweep of Chugiak in Friday night Cook Inlet Conference volleyball action at Service.
The Cougars triumphed 25-19, 25-20, 25-21 behind a blocking game that also featured three block assists from Morgan Christy and two from Tayleigh Talmadge.
Christy and Talmadge each drilled a match-high nine kills, and Talmadge added 10 digs.
Monique Mojica's 23 digs led the defense, Cydney Clark's 16 assists fueled the offense, and Alyssa Flynn did a little of everything with 12 digs, five kills and two aces.
Chugiak got a boost from Rachel Gregg, who finished with 11 digs and eight kills, and Kirsten Veech, whose on-target passes sparked the Mustangs offense.
Dimond 3, East 0
Leah Swiss put on a show Friday in Dimond's CIC volleyball sweep of East.
Swiss put down 19 kills and came up with 19 digs to lead the Lynx to a 25-10, 25-20, 25-19 home-court victory.
Chrisalyn Johnson was a big contributer too, with 14 digs and eight kills, and Heidi Andrus added 15 digs. Jenna Mixson and Alli McDonald each dished 13 assists to keep the offense going.
East was led by Sydney Hill's six kills and Morgan Hill's five kills.
