Aces: Curry out for weekend, Zuck back practicing (plus, notes)

Alaska Aces veteran defenseman Sean Curry, who left last Saturday's 5-0 victory over the San Francisco Bulls early in the match with a lower-body injury, will remain out for the club's roadie to Las Vegas this weekend, according to coach Rob Murray.

Curry was injured when he retreated to play the puck under fore-checking pressure and spun awkwardly.

Murray said the team is awaiting results from an MRI on Curry.

Meanwhile, rookie center Eli Zuck of Anchorage, who missed the season-opening series with a lower-body injury, practiced Monday and this morning, but won't be available for the series against the Wranglers, Murray said.

Also, goaltender Gerald Coleman didn't practice today. He's still rehabbing from offseason hip surgery and has practiced previously, but Murray said the goalie has felt soreness of late so his practice time has been scaled back.

Otherwise, all was normal at practice this morning -- 12 forwards, eight defensemen and two goalies.

On the awards front, Aces winger Peter Sivak (5 assists in two games) was a runner-up for ECHL Player of the Week, which went to Utah's Jamie MacQueen, who scored all five of the Grizzlies' goals last weekend, including all four in a season-opening win. And Aces goaltender Joni Ortio (1-1-0, 1.01 goals-against average, .944 save percentage, one shutout) was a runner-up for ECHL Goaltender of the Week to South Carolina's Jeff Jakaitis (1-0-1, 1.93, .930).
