Letter: Parnell aims to obstruct input

October 26, 2013

Democracy is a great thing, but Sean Parnell is clearly annoyed by it. That’s why he proposed House Bill 77 to obstruct your input in government decisions regarding our resources. Why is he doing this? Well those of us who care about Bristol Bay, the Susitna Valley, the Chuitna River and countless other beautiful and bountiful areas of Alaska leave a bad taste in his mouth. We don’t want to see salmon streams and forests destroyed for short-term profits and this doesn’t please Parnell’s paymasters so he is seeking to eliminate public comments and the ability to challenge permits. If this legislation is passed through the Senate come January, it’ll be much harder to halt the next Pebble.
