Matyas to get start for UAA on Friday night

Redshirt freshman goaltender Michael Matyas will get the start for UAA on Friday night when it plays at Bowling Green in its first WCHA series of the season, coach Matt Thomas said.

Matyas is 2-0-0 in three appearances, with a 2.25 goals-against average and .912 save percentage.

Also making the trip was senior goaltender Rob Gunderson (1-1-0, 3.59, .865).

Senior goaltender Chris Kamal, who has yet to play this season, did not make the trip.

Speaking of Gunderson, upon review of video, he was awarded an assist on the first of Matt Bailey's two goals in a 6-2 loss to Western Michigan in Fairbanks on Oct. 18. That gives Gunderson five career assists.

Check the blog later today -- perhaps soon -- to find out where Gunderson's career assists rank on UAA's all-time list.
