High school Volleyball report for Friday, Nov. 1

West 3, East 2

West clinched the No. 3 seed in next week’s Cook Inlet Conference volleyball tournament by surviving a five-set match with East on Friday.

The Eagles rallied from a first-set loss to triumph 19-25, 26-24, 25-14, 11-25, 15-8.

Morgan Hill came through with a big double-double for East, amassing 17 kills and 19 digs. Sydney Smith added 13 kills and Nadi Frank-Macon 11.



Dimond 3, Service 1

The Dimond volleyball team won its final regular season match Friday by turning back Service in four sets to solidify its status as the top seed heading into next week’s CIC championships.

Leah Swiss tallied 18 kills and Jenna Mixson racked up 20 assists and 16 digs to power the Lynx to a 25-15, 25-11, 21-25, 25-14 victory at Service. Allie McDonnel added 18 assists and seven digs, Chrisalyn Johnson chipped in 13 digs and Rohyn Huss had six kills for Dimond.

Tayleigh Talmadge ripped 11 kills and came up with 15 digs and Morgan Christy racked up five kills and nine blocks for Service, which will be the No. 5 seed in the week-long CIC tournament that starts Tuesday at Service.

The Cougars felt like winners after taking the third set from Dimond, which posted a sweep in the first match between the teams this season.

“That’s a good momentum boost for us going into regions,” Service coach Bryan Stenehjem said. “The girls were really excited.”

 

Chugiak 3, Eagle River 0

Sara Rutz served five aces and tallied 11 digs to help Chugiak stop Eagle River 25-7, 25-18, 25-11 in a CIC volleyball match.

Natalie Stark slammed 11 kills and Rachel Topf racked up 15 assists, 12 digs and six kills in the win.

Eagle River’s three seniors shined on Senior Night for the Wolves — Kyla Meadows had four kills, Kayla Gioffre five assists and Alex Harder turned in solid play on serve-receive.

 

South 3, Bartlett 0 

Aspen Avery came up with 22 digs Friday to spearhead South’s sweep of Bartlett in a CIC volleyball  match at Bartlett.

Tatum Upchurch smashed 10 kills and Holly Morehouse had eight for the Wolverines, who got 37 assists from setter Kayla Sims in the 25-13, 25-10, 25-14 victory.

Fia Manu’s five kills and one block and Noya Fiame’s four kills and three blocks led Bartlett. Autumn Plews and Keisha Gauta eached added three kills.
