Troopers call Meadow Lakes deaths apparent murder-suicide

Alaska State Troopers said Wednesday that the two people who died over the weekend at a Meadow Lakes residence were involved in an apparent murder-suicide.

Troopers discovered the bodies of Anthony Torres, 41, and Natasha Clark, 32, both of Wasilla, on Sunday morning after a concerned relative called emergency dispatchers.

Both had suffered gunshot wounds to the head, troopers said. The shooting occurred at a one-room cabin with a loft off Sylvan Road. Torres and Clark died on the main floor.

Investigators found containers of alcohol at the cabin and a loaded pistol next to Torres' body, troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said. They also found several other firearms "in various locations, in various states of storage."

Based on evidence at the scene and information from autopsies Monday, troopers "are still very much believing this is a homicide-suicide," Peters said Wednesday morning. "So far there's no surprises."

Though their investigation continues, troopers are not looking for anyone else who may have been involved in the shootings, she said.

Troopers first heard about the shooting a few minutes before 9 a.m. Sunday when the Palmer post got a report of a possible death at the residence. A family member of Torres or Clark -- Peters wouldn't say which -- became suspicious when they arrived to find vehicles parked on the property but no activity inside.

Torres and Clark "had a relationship" but Peters wouldn't say whether that meant an intimate relationship or a friendship.
