Letter: Time zones: Alaskans can cope

November 6, 2013

After the witness explained that the Affordable care Act web site is down every night from 1-5 a.m. (EST) for software upgrades, our Sen. Lisa Murkowski complained this was inconvenient for Alaskans and restrictive because of time zone differences.

Most national customer service phone banks (logically) operate on a different time zone than Alaska’s; you don’t have to be a rocket scientist figure out when to make your call.

Negotiating different time zones is just part of living here, like winter cold and darkness; it is not something our leaders should whine about on national TV, nor expect changes to accommodate those of us who may experience inconvenience.
