Wine of the week: 2012 Keeper Cabernet Franc

Mike McVittieNovember 7, 2013

Hooray! The highly touted 2012s are here. Check out The Keeper Cabernet Franc from the Corvidae Wine Company. Owner-winemaker David O'Riely has put some very good grapes in this one. Not surprising, I suppose, since his Washington vineyard sourcing is pretty spectacular. The nose takes a bit of airing, but shows dense black fruit and woody herbs. The mouth is surprisingly rich and sappy. It's a coating delight of deep mentholated black fruits, firm acids and very mild tannins. The finish is classic Cabernet Franc. I describe it as a pine-like scent. Try decanting or aerating this one and serve with hearty fare. Costs about $22.
