Service tops Eagle River 4-1 in the rink

Tyler Miknich bagged two goals and an assist Tuesday to help Service glide past Eagle River 4-1 in a Cook Inlet Conference hockey game at Ben Boeke Arena. 

Eagle Rive opened scoring with a power-play goal from Blake Halfpenny in the first period, but Service bounced back with three goals in the second period and another in the third. 

Miknich knocked in Service’s first goal on an assist from Brad Kuper less than a minute into the second period, and Leo Karcz gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead on an unassisted goal with 3:56 to play in the second. Less than a minute later, Miles Giorgione stretched the lead to 3-1 on an assist from Miknich, who tacked on the game’s final goal with less than two minutes to play in the game. 

Service goalie Angus Klancher stopped 12 shots and Eagle River goalie Justin Lopez stymied 28 shots.
