Anchorage woman arrested in connection to marijuana shipment

Troopers arrested an Anchorage woman Wednesday in connection to an attempted shipment of marijuana estimated to be worth $10,000 to Emmonak earlier this year.

Melanie Washington, 35, faces fourth-degree charges involving controlled substances, according to court records.

Troopers said they intercepted a parcel in July that contained 7.5-ounces of marijuana from a local air freight carrier. Its value was determined based on the street value of marijuana if sold in Emmonak, according to troopers.

Investigators have also issued an arrest warrant for Diana Shelikoff, 19 of St. Michael, in connection to the case, according to a trooper report.
