A 21-year-old soldier was found dead of unknown causes in his Fort Wainwright barracks room late Thursday night, the U.S. Army said Saturday morning.

Shane Michael Holton, of Goodrich, Mich., was an intelligence analyst who entered the Army in November 2011, said U.S. Army Alaska spokesman Maj. Alan Brown. Holton reported to Alaska in July 2012 and was assigned to the 184th Military Intelligence Co., Brigade Troops Battalion, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 25th Infantry Division.

Holton's death is currently under investigation. Brown said there "weren't any early indications at all" of the cause of death.
