Everyone scores for UAA women in 99-52 win

As road trips go, the UAA women's basketball team can't ask for much more than what it got Saturday in its first game away from home.

First, the Seawolves are in Hawaii. Second, they blasted BYU-Hawaii 99-52. Third, every single player in the lineup scored a point.

Five players scored in double figures in the nonconference game in Laie, including a pair of freshmen -- Alysha Devine of Wasilla, who scored a team-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, and Kiki Robertson, who piled up 10 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and seven assists.

About the only thing the Seawolves didn't do well was shoot free throws. They were 23 of 38 from the line.

"We missed too many free throws to score 100," said coach Ryan McCarthy, whose team hit the 99-point mark in the final minute of the game.

UAA outrebounded BYU 44-28 and turned over the ball 17 times to BYU's 36.

The Seawolves (2-0) forced most of BYU's turnovers. They finished with 22 steals, an effort that included five steals from KeKe Wright and four from Christina Davis.

Wright, a junior college All-American who joined UAA from Gillette (Wyo.) College, finished with a double-double -- 12 points, 12 rebounds; she now has 37 rebounds in two games. Alli Madison and Jessica Madison each added 15 points while leading UAA's 3-point shooting -- Alli hit 2 of 2, Jessica hit 3 of 4. All 10 players scored, and eight of them had eight or more points.

"They played really hard," McCarthy said. "We talked before the game about holding ourselves to our standards and taking a step forward, and I really think we did that."

Danna Lynn Hopper led the overmatched Seasiders (0-2) with 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting.

The teams meet again on Tuesday.
