Alaska Aces winger David Eddy was all over the ice Saturday night at Sullivan Arena, taking care of business on a number of fronts in a 5-2 win over Las Vegas, and his goal, assist and fighting major delivered the club's first Gordie Howe Hat Trick of the ECHL season.
For the uninitiated, a Gordie -- or a Mr. Howe as a friend suggests -- consists of at least one goal, one assist and one fight in any game.
Eddy became the 11th different ECHL player to record a Gordie in the circuit's first 128 games this season, through Saturday night.
Eight of the Gordie's recorded in the ECHL this season were like Eddy's -- one goal, one helper, one scrap.
Idaho's Anthony Nigro and Ontario's Derek Couture each had two goals in their Gordies. And Evansville defenseman Matt Krug had two helpers in his Gordie.
Two teams have actually recorded a pair of Gordies in a game -- Stockton defenseman Mike Dalhuisen and forward Kirill Kabanov both went Gordie in a 5-0 win over Colorado on Oct. 19, and Orlando forwards Mike Ullrich and Ian Slater each went Gordie on Nov. 10 in a 6-3 win over Toledo.
For what it's worth, a little research gleaned that Couture's Gordie was his fourth career Gordie in the ECHL -- three in the regular season and one in the playoffs.
And also for what it's worth, of those 11 Gordie's this season, nine were recorded by guys whose team won that night. Just sayin'.
