Letters: King salmon runs not for special interests

AnchorageNovember 17, 2013

The king salmon run belongs to nature, not to any one special interest group. No one is entitled to the fish so start working on an effective solution: Shut down all catching of king salmon for five years and let the runs build back up. Work on a solution with the commercial side which better catches red without taking the kings.

Maybe a slightly smaller gill net opening? Design a better in-river system for allotting sports caught fish, giving a higher priority to fisherman and less to commercial guiding.

OK children, let’s play nice and come up with a system that serves our valuable resource the most.
