Reports: Phillies re-sign Ruiz

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly re-signed catcher Carlos Ruiz.

The three-year deal is worth $26 million with a club option for a fourth season, according to multiple reports.

Ruiz, who turns 35 in January, struggled at the plate in 2013, a year that was marred by his 25-game suspension for a failed drug test. He hit .268 with 16 doubles, five homers and 37 RBI in 92 games.

In 2012, Ruiz hit .325 with 32 doubles, 16 homers and 68 RBI while making his first All-Star team.

The Panamanian started his career with the Phillies in 2006. He has hit .274 with 169 doubles, 57 homers and 336 RBI in 825 career games with Philadelphia.

The Rockies, Red Sox and Blue Jays were also rumored to be in the mix for Ruiz.
