Wine of the Week: Thanksgiving Day selections

November 21, 2013

Thanksgiving feasting day is almost upon us. The big question is (drumroll please): "What kind of wine goes with turkey?" To a major wine geek, that can sound like a crazy question. But I will try to slow my mind down and offer a few suggestions. First, for acidity and charm, try a riesling. Chateau Ste. Michelle puts out Eroica, probably the best riesling in America. Pinot gris is good, too; try Zenato (Italy) or Chehalem (Washington). Then, of course, the weighty and seductive chardonnay to round out the palate. Cambria's 2012 Katherine's Vineyard is outstanding and Nicolas Catena's High Mountain Vines is delicious. All cost about $20.
