Posted by DOYLE WOODY, adn.com on November 22, 2013

UAF staged a furious third-period rally in Big Rapids, Mich., tonight, but came up short and fell 5-3 to Ferris State in a WCHA game.

Trailing 4-0 in the third period, Nanooks Marcus Basara, Cody Kunyk and Tyler Morley all scored in a span of 6:24 to pull within a goal. The Nanooks blasted 19 third-period shots and 44 in all.

But the Bulldogs scored into an empty net in the final minute to make C.J. Motte's 41 saves stand up in the opener of a two-game series.

UAF fell to 5-4-2 overall and 2-3-0 in the WCHA.

League-leading Ferris improved to 9-2-1 overall and 6-0-1 in league.
