In a race dominated by Norwegians, Anchorage skiers Sadie Bjornsen and Kikkan Randall cracked the top 10 in a pre-World Cup race Friday in Beitostolen, Norway.
Bjornsen placed fifth and Randall 10th in a 10-kilometer classic race held in advance of next week’s World Cup opener.
Everyone else in the top 10 was from Norway, including Therese Johaug, who finished in 26 minutes, 40.6 seconds to beat teammate Astrid Jacobsen by 54.1 seconds.
Bjornsen clocked 27:48 and Randall 28:35.3. Minnesota’s Jessie Diggins was 13th (28:45.2) and Anchorage’s Holly Brooks was 19th (29:01.9).
Bjornsen, Randall and Brooks all train with Alaska Pacific University’s nordic ski program and race for the U.S. Ski Team. All are vying for spots on the Winter Olympics team that will compete in Sochi, Russia, in February.
