The Mat-Su School Board has a new member: Wasilla's Tiffany Scott, a research analyst and 2003 graduate of Colony High School with two young children.

The school board on Wednesday evening selected Scott to fill Seat E, a position vacated in September after Erick Cordero Giorgana resigned for health and family reasons.

The board needed four rounds of voting to make the selection, according to Mat-Su Borough School District spokeswoman Catherine Esary.

Scott, a softball standout at Colony, went on to play at Central Arizona College. Her work experience includes Kotzebue-area jobs at Red Dog Mine and as varsity cheerleading coach at Northwest Arctic Borough School District, as well as her current job as a research analyst with Nana Development Corp. in Anchorage.

The board chose from five candidates Wednesday night. The others were Mike Rovito, legislative liaison with the Knik Arm Bridge and Toll Authority; former assistant district attorney Rachel Gernat; attorney Helene Antel; and Pete LeFrance, a technology collaborator with the Anchorage School District.

Two other candidates removed themselves from the running for work-related reasons, Esary said.

Scott's seat will be up for election next year.
