Letter: Modern John Birchers carry on campaign of lies, hatred and fear

November 23, 2013

On this 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK, the media is filled with analyses of the mood in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963. One interesting factoid from NPR revealed that the John Birch Society had distributed thousands of wanted posters depicting the president of the United States as treasonous with a list of spurious reasons. False accusations from an organization that had lost its ability to reason over its hatred for Communism and people of color.

Fast-forward to yesterday’s ADN article about the sons of one of the founders of the John Birch Society, David and Charles Koch, carrying on their father’s hatred, divisiveness, defamation and disinformation campaign against the Affordable Care Act, whose sole mission is to get access to health insurance to millions of uninsured Americans. Similar charges being raised against President Obama as Father Frederick threw at President Kennedy with the same purpose of dividing the nation through fear.

If all you have are lies and distortions, then your cause is weak tea to begin with, eh?
