Big Lake man killed in ATV-car collision

AnchorageNovember 24, 2013

A 25-year-old man was killed on Saturday night when his ATV was struck by a car on Big Lake Road, Alaska State Troopers said.

Caleb J. Younger of Big Lake was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a car driven by Sierra M. Mahnke, 23, of Wasilla, troopers said in an online report.

It happened just after 10:30 p.m., on Big Lake Road near Birch Road, troopers said.

Mahnke was driving south in 1995 Ford Taurus and hit the Yamaha ATV driven in the same direction by Younger, troopers said.

“I understand (the ATV) was in the roadway and turned in front of the car,” AST spokeswoman Beth Ipsen said in an email Sunday.

Younger wasn’t wearing a helmet, troopers said. Mahnke wasn’t hurt.

An investigation is continuing, troopers said.
