Philanthropy: Tax preparers needed

Volunteer tax preparers needed

Help an Anchorage family save money and get on the road to financial stability. AARP and United Way are seeking Southcentral Alaska area volunteers to prepare taxes in 2014.

No prior tax experience is necessary. Volunteers need some computer knowledge, must have an email address and need to have the time to attend classes. They'll be asked to volunteer at one of seven sites open across Anchorage during the tax season. Schedules are flexible and volunteers get to choose what day while working sites that are convenient for them. A volunteer preparing taxes for approximately six hours a week during the tax season saves households more than $9,000 in tax preparation fees.

Training for volunteers starts Dec. 12. For more information or to sign up as a potential volunteer, visit and click on the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Volunteer box. Complete the application, and a volunteer coordinator will call you.

Anchorage Daily News is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
