State Individual Assistance Application Options
Online and Telephonic Registration to Begin Dec 7. In-person Registration to Follow in Some Areas
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Governor Parnell issued disaster declarations for two separate disaster events in November. The declarations activate State Individual Assistance (IA) for residents impacted by the 2013 Kenai Peninsula Borough Floods and the 2013 November Storms. State IA programs consist of Individual and Family Grants and Temporary Housing Assistance.
Residents within the Kenai Peninsula Borough can apply for damages which were a result of the Oct. 27-28 flooding. Residents within the Bering Strait Regional Education Attendance Area (REAA), Lower Yukon REAA, Lower Kuskokwim REAA, Fairbanks North Star Borough, City of Fairbanks, and City of North Pole may apply for damages incurred during the storm and power outage that took place between Nov. 5 and Nov. 14.
In order to serve the large geographic area and numerous Alaskans affected by these events the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHS&EM) will establish several ways affected individuals and families can apply for IA.
DHS&EM will distribute online registration information on or before Dec. 6. Online registration will begin no later than Dec. 7.
The IA hotline toll-free number will be distributed to the press and will be posted at www.ready.alaska.gov on or before Dec. 6. The hotline will be open Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sunday Dec. 8 from 9am-6pm. After which the hours of hotline operation will be 9am-6pm, Monday through Friday.
Disaster Assistance Centers
DHS&EM is working with local governments to identify sites for Disaster Assistance Center (DAC). Residents will be able to fill out an IA application at a DAC or arrange for damage verification appointment. The Kenai Peninsula DAC will be at the Kenai Peninsula Borough Emergency Management Office, 253 Wilson Lane in Soldotna, Dec. 8-11, 9am-7pm.
DHS&EM will establish DACs in the Fairbanks area and in some West Coast communities as needed. Information on those DACs will be shared with media outlets in the affected area when details are completed.
Statewide and regional media outlets will be asked to distribute the IA Hotline toll-free number and online registration information when they have been activated.
Before applying for IA online, through the hotline, or at a DAC, applicants should develop a description of damages and/or losses, gather ownership and insurance documents, and have personal identification ready.
