A Fairbanks mother faces first-degree murder charges in the death of her 18-month-old boy, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers arrested Amberlynn Swanson, 24, Tuesday after an autopsy report said that the child "had suffered blunt force trauma prior to his death and the manner of death is believed to be homicide," a trooper report said.

The autopsy was performed after Swanson brought the baby's body to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital late Sunday night. She said she'd fallen asleep in her car the night before and awoke to the passenger window rolled down and her son outside, troopers said.

Swanson said the baby had died Sunday, troopers said. The hospital staff confirmed the boy "had been dead for some time," according to troopers.

Swanson is being held at the Fairbanks Correctional Center. Her arraignment in district court was scheduled for Wednesday, but was postponed to Thursday afternoon.
