Aces add Anchorage D-man Jason Cohen

The Alaska Aces fortified their depleted blue line today with the signing of defenseman Jason Cohen of Anchorage, on loan from the Louisiana IceGators of the SPHL, where he's been tearing it up as a rookie.

Cohen, 25, leads SPHL defensemen in scoring, and sits tied for seventh overall in the league, with 7-10--17 totals in 15 games. He has a +3 rating, he leads all blue liners in goals, assists and points, and his 57 shots on goal lead all D-men.

The Aces are down to six defenseman, the number that dress for games, because Kane Lafranchise is up with AHL Abbotsford, and Sean Curry and Zach Davies are out with long-term injuries.

Cohen played his last three seasons of college hockey at Division III Wisconsin-Stout -- last season, he went 5-13--18 in 27 games, then played 10 games (one assist) for ECHL Orlando.

Cohen as a freshman in college played for Division I American International University, where one of his teammates was current Aces winger Tommy Mele.
