A tractor trailer that slid off the Seward Highway Friday morning tangled traffic between Girdwood and Bird Point throughout the day, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Troopers funneled vehicles through a single lane around noon while trying to remove the semi, which was transporting groceries to the Kenai Peninsula, from a ditch near Mile 96.
Road conditions Friday morning were "water and ice," according to Megan Peters, Troopers spokesman. Troopers couldn't say if the icy conditions definitely caused the slide.
A crane was dispatched to remove the rig, Peters said. The highway was completely reopened by about 5:20 p.m.
