AnchorageDecember 6, 2013

West 4, West Valley 4

Each team scored twice in the third period, but couldn’t notch a goal in overtime, as West and West Valley skated to a 4-4 tie in a nonconference high school hockey game at Ben Boeke Arena.

Ilya Turchaninov scored twice for West, which trailed 2-1 after one period. Turchaninov tied it at 2-2 with a goal 11 minutes into the second period, then gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead when he scored again less than four minutes into the third period.

West Valley came right back 72 seconds later to tie it at 3-3 on a goal from Calvon Boots, and then led 4-3 just more than a minute later, when Gabe Rankin deposited the second of his two goals.

Alex Bardsley knocked in the game’s final goal for West with 2:31 to play in regulation, Garen Teders providing one of his three assists on the play.

West goalie Joe Chekan stopped 18 shots, with three saves coming in overtime. West Valley goalie Lane Wood matched those three overtime saves to finish with 28.
