Man in head-on crash charged with assault

The Associated PressDecember 9, 2013

— A 61-year-old Sutton man sought on a warrant for leaving the scene of an accident has been charged with felony assault and driving under the influence of alcohol following a weekend crash.

Alaska State Troopers say 61-year-old Peter E. Wilson is being held without bail at Mat-Su Pretrial Facility.

Troopers just after 11 p.m. Friday responded to a crash near Mile 53 Glenn Highway.

Investigators say Wilson drove southbound in a pickup, crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into a northbound sedan, critically injuring 46-year-old Gerhard Jakits of Sutton.

Jakits was transported to an Anchorage hospital.

Wilson was treated and released at Mat-Su Regional Hospital for what troopers called minor injuries. He was arrested at the hospital.
