The body discovered near the Basher Drive trail head Tuesday night was that of Tanner Volkers, an Air Force fireman who was reported missing, Anchorage police said Wednesday.

Authorities said they "have not found any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death," according to an email from spokeswoman Jennifer Castro. His relatives have been notified, she said.

Volkers, 22, was last seen Saturday at his East Anchorage home before he packed up some belongings and left, Castro said. His mother reported him missing Sunday, police said.

Co-workers found Volkers' pickup, a black Dodge Ram, parked off Basher Drive on Sunday. They, along with volunteer searchers and at least three police officers, scoured trails near the vehicle looking for Volkers, Castro said. Police found his body on a nearby trail.

According to his Facebook page, Volkers was from Nampa, Idaho. He was a member of the 673rd Civil Engineer Group stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson since 2010, military public affairs officials said.
