High school hockey: Wasilla torches East 9-3

Wasilla’s Tanner Schachle and Luke Schruf each scored hat tricks Saturday at Ben Boeke Arena, powering a 9-3 nonconference hockey win over East. 

Wasilla led 2-1 after one period on goals from Cooper Hanson and Blake Carricaburu, and then it was time for Schachle and Schruf to go to work. The duo accounted for the Warriors’ next six goals, five of which came in the second period. Schachle notched his third goal in the first minute of the third period, and Russell Barren scored the game’s final goal with 10:13 to play. 

Tarini Tosi, Jack Reynolds and Justin Beverlin each scored for East, with Marshall Walsh earning a pair of assists. The T-birds were outshot 36-9, with goalie Matthew Purvis making 27 saves.
