Hot Picks: Holiday Lights, Solstice Torchlight Skate, 'Cirque Dreams'

Holiday Lights Bus Tour and Zoo Lights

See Anchorage's brightest homes from a comfortable motor coach with plenty of refreshments to keep you merry and warm. Tickets are $25 and include the tour, one drink, snacks and on-board entertainment. 7-8:30 p.m. Friday. The Alaska Zoo will be decorated with lighted displays that are colorful and even animated. You can walk under canopies of light and check out the animals. 5-8 p.m. Thursdays-Sundays through Jan. 5 at the Alaska Zoo, 4731 O'Malley Road. Solstice Torchlight Skate

Holiday lights and torches brighten this holiday skating party, and there will also be music and free horse-drawn sleigh rides. 6-8 p.m. Friday, Cuddy Family Midtown Park, 40th Avenue and B Street. Free. Call 349-1318 for details.

Cirque Dreams: Holidaze

Got your fill of the traditional holiday theater offerings? "Cirque Dreams: Holidaze" offers a somewhat different take. Watch gingerbread men flipping in midair, toy soldiers marching on thin wires and reindeer soaring high in this acrobatic showcase, Dec. 27 to Dec. 29 at the Atwood Concert Hall. Balboa and Brew

Balboa is one of the first swing dances, created on the Balboa Peninsula during the birth of jazz music in the 1920s. Learn why this is such a well-loved dance this weekend at Tap Root.
